Rattus villosissimus, the Australian Long-haired Rat,[1] is a species of rodent in the family Muridae. It is endemic to Australia, where its core range is "the Barkly lake system of the Barkly Tableland of the Northern Territory and the Channel Country in Southwest Queensland and north-eastern South Australia".[2] The species occasionally undergoes irruptions outside this core range across large parts of Australia, reaching as far as Alice Springs in 2011.[3]
